Preached by James R. Reynolds, Sr. on February 14, 1979.

Song of Solomon 1:15 —

Song of Solomon

Lesson 18

Pr 5:19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

Song 4:5 Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins, which feed among the lilies.

Song 7:3 Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins.

My beloved is like a roe or a young hart: behold, he standeth behind our wall, he looketh forth at the windows, shewing himself through the lattice.

Song of Solomon 2:9

INTRODUCTION

This is a powerful and wonderful message with a choice verse.

The Holy Spirit is leading us into some wonderful things.

If you don’t understand these things, put it on the shelf for a while and pray about it.

Revelations of the Bride Groom

God wants us to see Him above and beyond anything else.

“My beloved”

  • The Gift and the Giver

Like a roe and a young hart -In swiftness and beauty.  He is coming to me with all speed and will not tarry a moment beyond the proper season. He standeth behind our wall there is a wall between us but He is not far from us.  The Wall, the windows, Through the lattice intimate that the church does indeed see Christ, but, as through a glass, darkly, as it is said even of gospel-revelations.1Cor. 13:12

We need to have some Revelations of Him.

There are some tremendous things revealed here, in relationship to the Bride Groom.

There are three things in relationship of the Revelations of the Bride Groom.

                                 Revelation of His Redemption

      Revelation of His Providence

       Revelation of His Person

  1. Revelation of His Redemption

2:9 “behold, he standeth behind our wall”

        • People will try to teach you that God is far off from man.
  • Personal experience, you find the devil trying to convince you that God is far off.
    • The devil will try to convince you that God doesn’t want any more to do with you.

The Lord is nearer to us than our hands and our feet.

God has not left us, God has not forsaken us, Man has a problem, humanity has found itself in a deep hole. Dry hole; dry well

    1. “Our  Wall”
      1. The wall separates and divides us from God.
        1. The wall of sin.

(We must recognize we have a problem)

    Romans 3:23—For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Isaiah 59:2—But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

Gen. 3:8—And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

9—And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

    Eph 2:1—And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

      1. Sin separates us from God.
        1. Sin separates us from one another (Man)
          1. From Happiness
          2. From Joy
          3. From Peace

Jesus was manifested to tear down the walls that we have built up.

        1. We built the wall but He tore it down

          1. “Our wall”  The wall of sin

    Eph. 2:14—For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;

Song 1:4—Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.

Song 2:4—He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.

    1. “Our wall”  The wall of unbelief

Sins of omission because we don’t believe.

Christian agnostic --- A Christian or a believer  that doesn’t believe.

Mark 9:24—And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

    • A wall between us because of unbelief.

Romans 14:23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

Mark 11:24—Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

    DISCIPLES

Mat. 6:30—Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

8:26--And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

16:8—Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?

Luke 12:28—If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?

Mat.17:17—Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.

Mark 9:19—He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.

Luke 9:41—And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither.

    PETER

Mat. 14:31—And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

The wall can come down, Let Him take down the wall.

    DAVID

1Sam. 21:13—And he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard

Eph. 2:14—For he …hath broken down the …wall…

          1. “Our wall” The wall of Rebellion

Sins of commission because we are rebellious.

The wall of rebellion is found even in a Christian?   Absolutely

Does a Christian sin after he gets saved?

We have a problem, there are areas in our lives we would have to say, yes I am guilty.

No wall can keep Him out but our wall.   (Walls speak of our beliefs, good and bad)

    THE PROMISE

2Cor. 5:17—Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

What does it take to make up the wall of rebellion?

    • There are a lot of things in our lives that make up the wall of rebellion.

    1. Pride is part of the wall.

    • Pride of race, Pride of grace, Pride of face.

If we are going to have Him in close fellowship with us we are going to get rid of the wall. We don’t want to see Him dimly through the Lattice work.

We don’t want anything between us and Him.

    1. Quick Temper is part of the wall.

    • QUICK TEMPER keep it nobody else wants it.

Selfishness,  self out of control. Self out of order, Out of the Will of God.

Fly off the handle stick in the wall and vibrate.

If we are going to have God’s best we are going to have to get rid of that quick temper

Ex. 17:6—Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

Num. 20:8—Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.

10—And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?

11—And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

12—And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

    • We need to learn a lot more meekness.

    1. Lust is part of the wall of rebellion

James 1:14—But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

    • Drawn away from God
    • Drawn away from His Will
    • Drawn away from His call
    • A serious thing to get away from the Will of God.

    1. A (bad) habit is part of the wall of rebellion

What is a bad habit? A bad habit is something that you can’t break on your own.

    • Something that controls you, you don’t control it, but it controls you.

There is a place that we find in Him where the wall comes down.

    1. His Position in relationship to His Redemption.

    Song 2:9 “He standeth”

Standing by our wall is the Mighty Conqueror

                   1. He stands with redeeming Grace.

                   2. He stands with redeeming Mercy.

       3. He stands at my wall.

       4. He stands at your wall.

Song 2:9—“He standeth behind our wall, he looketh forth at the windows, shewing himself through the lattice”

Here He is not sitting, He is not laying down, Here He is standing

    1. He stands as He that has conquered.
    2. He stands as the one ready to help us.

Rev. 3:20—Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Mat.28:18—And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

20—Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

John 20:14—And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.

16—Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.

21:4—But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.

     5—Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No. {Children: or, little boys}

13—Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.

Acts 7:56—And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

Rev. 10:5—And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven,

6—And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:

    1. The Revelation of His Providence

    1. “He looketh forth at the windows”

He sees all things, “He looketh forth at the windows” There is nothing that is hid from His eyes, He sees all and He knows all things.

          1. He sees us
            1. He knows and He cares

He knows us better than we know ourselves for He knows all things, and He knows what is good for us.

Jer17:9—The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked who can know it?

1Sam. 16:7—But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

    “God is Faithful”

1Cor. 10:13—There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

He knows whether we are real or sincere.

Standing by our wall is the Mighty Conqueror.

          1. He Guides us

God was leading you before you knew anything about Him.

The Lord holds the reigns and guides us with His Eye.  (Providence)-(counsel)

    Ps 32:8—I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. {guide...: Heb. counsel thee, mine eye shall be upon thee}

He leads us to salvation and to the cross and He leads us continually in our lives.

Sometimes He has take us on a detour because of our rebellion, pride, quick temper, lust and habits.

          1. He keeps us
            1. From harm, danger, sin and our self.

1Cor. 13:12—For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

2Chron. 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

    1. The Revelation of His Person
    1. “shewing himself through the lattice”

We need a true picture, a true Vision, a real revelation, we need to see Him.

We see Him in redemption and in providence; we need to see him as He really is.

      1. Our vision is dim (we don’t see Him totally but He sees us)

    Php 3:10—That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

We not only have walls, we have lattice work hindering our vision of Him.

We don’t see Him clearly because we don’t know Him. Not even to recognize Him.

      1. Our vision begins to clear as we begin to know Him better.

How much better we can see when we get closer to Him. As he works in our life we get to know Him more.

      1. Our vision can be complete.

We can have a complete vision of Jesus.

Our vision of the Word can be complete.

Get closer, closer He is “shewing himself”  beyond the walls, beyond the lattice, inside the house.

Rev. 3:20—Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

1John 3:2—Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Rev. 3:17—Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

18—I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

We need to See Him for who He is, not just what He can do.

    Come in with your Glory.

Ps 24:7—Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

8—Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.

9—Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

10—Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.
