SOS 2:7 The Bride's Charge

Preached by James R. Reynolds, Sr. on January 31, 1979.

Song of Solomon 2:7 — I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please.

The little bride is charging the daughters of Jerusalem

She has been drawn on into some deep experiences with God, We have found her in different chambers, we have found her with a holy desire to know where He is feeding His flock and she wants to be amongst those that are being fed, knowing that as she receives what He is giving—it will strengthen her to run even closer to Him.

Now as she moves on in this banqueting house this is a very close communion and fellowship that she has entered into. And now because she has tasted of the sweetness and the grace and the goodness of her Beloved She does not one thing to disturb that.

So she charges those that are around her not to disturb Him in any way.

  • Not to disturb Him around her

  • Not to disturb within her

Hang on to what God has given you!!!

11 Timothy 1:13

Hebrews 3:6; 9:14; 10:23

Revelation 2:25; 3:3

Holding fast to what she has.

Ezra 8:24-34

Then I separated twelve of the chief of the priests, Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brethren with them,

And weighed unto them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering of the house of our God, which the king, and his counsellors, and his lords, and all Israel there present, had offered:

I even weighed unto their hand six hundred and fifty talents of silver, and silver vessels an hundred talents, and of gold an hundred talents;

Also twenty basons of gold, of a thousand drams; and two vessels of fine copper, precious as gold.

And I said unto them, Ye are holy unto the LORD; the vessels are holy also; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering unto the LORD God of your fathers.

Watch ye, and keep them, until ye weigh them before the chief of the priests and the Levites, and chief of the fathers of Israel, at Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of the LORD.

So took the priests and the Levites the weight of the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem unto the house of our God.

Then we departed from the river of Ahava on the twelfth day of the first month, to go unto Jerusalem: and the hand of our God was upon us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy, and of such as lay in wait by the way.

And we came to Jerusalem, and abode there three days.

Now on the fourth day was the silver and the gold and the vessels weighed in the house of our God by the hand of Meremoth the son of Uriah the priest; and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas; and with them was Jozabad the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah the son of Binnui, Levites;

By number and by weight of every one: and all the weight was written at that time.

God is going to require of us what He has given to us.

Revelation 3:11

Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

  1. The object of the charge

    1. The charge is to a particular group

      1. The daughters of Jerusalem

There is a vast difference between the family, (the daughters, the church, the body) and the bride.

Why didn't she speak to all the rest? They were not bothering her. She addressed those that were causing the trouble.

It's one thing to hear His word and it is another thing to apply the truth, we need to have the truth in our soul and let nothing disturb or drive Him out of our lives.

      1. The daughters are many. 6:8-9

When we speak of the body we think of many members, but when we speak of the bride we think of one.

John 17:11

And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

The bride is united in purpose, motive and action in mind and in spirit.

Song of Solomon 6:8,9

There are threescore queens, and fourscore concubines, and virgins without number.

My dove, my undefiled is but one; she is the only one of her mother, she is the choice one of her that bare her. The daughters saw her, and blessed her; yea, the queens and the concubines, and they praised her.

Ephesians 4:3

Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Ephesians 3:13

Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

Hebrews 12:2

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

The little bride will keep herself single only looking unto Him.

Romans 9

For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son.

Only one son of promise.

The charge is that they are many—all kinds—of ways, so she is charging them to awaken themselves because it is soon going to be too late.

      1. The daughters are Lacking

They are being charged because they are lacking and following afar off.

Song of Solomon 2:7

I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please.

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

    1. Teaching them a lesson through illustration of the roes and the hinds.

      1. Their speed

If we are going to be in the race we are going to have to run.

She charges them to hear the sound of His voice. I want a sensitive ear to hear Him, an ear to hear His footsteps.

I Peter 2:21

For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

      1. Their wisdom

Luke 16:8

And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

Hebrews 5:14

But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

James 1:5

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

We need wisdom to walk with Him.

Psalm 45:2

Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.

Revelation 3:18

I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

        1. By conversation

You can not keep Christ resting in your life with any disturbances.

Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

      1. Do His will

Luke 22:42

Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
